Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 10, Iberdrola and Selex Group have signed a long-term solar power purchase agreement (PPA) in Italy for a total of 1250GWh. The 10-year agreement will deliver 125GWh of photovoltaic energy annually, backed by 77MW of installed capacity, with supply scheduled to begin in July 2026.

According to Iberdrola, the agreement represents a key step in advancing industrial electrification in Italy. The renewable energy supplied under this deal is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 37,000 tonnes each year.

Selex Group, which consists of 18 affiliated companies, manages a retail network of 3,331 outlets across the country, including hypermarkets, supermarkets, and discount stores. The framework arrangement allows the clean electricity to be distributed among the group’s various companies, ensuring broad benefits across its operations. Iberdrola highlighted that this agreement directly supports Selex Group in achieving its decarbonisation objectives.

The deal also strengthens Iberdrola’s role as a major participant in the European PPA market. Over recent years, the company has signed renewable energy agreements with several large corporations, including Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Salzgitter, Mercedes-Benz, and Vodafone. These partnerships demonstrate Iberdrola’s continued commitment to supplying clean energy to industrial and commercial customers across Europe.

In addition to its contribution to emissions reduction, the agreement highlights the growing importance of renewable PPAs as a tool for companies seeking sustainable growth. Selex Group will be able to secure stable and renewable electricity supply for the next decade, providing both environmental and financial advantages. Iberdrola underlined that such collaborations accelerate the energy transition and provide a reliable pathway for businesses to meet their long-term climate strategies.

By combining Iberdrola’s renewable energy expertise with Selex Group’s extensive retail operations, the partnership is positioned to make a significant impact on Italy’s clean energy adoption. The initiative demonstrates how large-scale renewable power agreements can align with corporate sustainability commitments while contributing to national climate objectives.

With this agreement, Iberdrola continues to expand its portfolio of renewable energy contracts in Europe, while Selex Group strengthens its role as a retail operator committed to sustainability. The project is expected to enhance the competitiveness of Selex Group in a market where both consumers and stakeholders increasingly prioritize environmental responsibility.
