Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 14, Solvay S.A. (Brussels, Belgium) and Noveon Magnetics have signed a supply agreement for light and heavy rare earth materials, under which Solvay will begin delivering rare earth oxides to Noveon starting in 2026. The agreement represents a key step toward creating a sustainable supply chain for rare earth permanent magnets.

Scott Dunn, CEO of Noveon Magnetics, said: “This agreement strengthens our ability to deliver reliable, American-made magnet solutions to industries that depend on them most. By working with Solvay, we are building a resilient supply chain at a time when the U.S. needs it most.”

Under the terms of the agreement, Solvay will supply Neodymium-Praseodymium (NdPr), Dysprosium (Dy), and Terbium (Tb) oxides to Noveon. These materials will be sourced, in part, from end-of-life (EOL) products, supporting Noveon’s production of finished rare earth magnets for key industrial customers.

An Nuyttens, President of Solvay Special Chem, said: “Partnering with Noveon allows us to apply Solvay’s expertise to supply essential resources for high-performance applications. This collaboration is part of Solvay’s broader commitment to sustainable and secure rare earth supply chains, both in Europe and abroad.”

The agreement addresses growing demand for domestically produced rare earth magnets. By combining Solvay’s chemical and processing expertise with Noveon’s manufacturing capabilities, the partnership provides immediate, operational production capacity, mitigating risks associated with long lead times for new domestic facilities and ongoing global supply uncertainties.

The collaboration also emphasizes the use of recycled materials, reflecting industry trends toward circularity and sustainability. This approach supports responsible sourcing while enhancing the security and reliability of critical magnet materials for applications in sectors such as renewable energy, electric vehicles, and high-tech manufacturing.

Solvay and Noveon’s partnership aligns with broader industry efforts to establish resilient, geographically diversified supply chains for strategic materials. The agreement will help reduce dependence on overseas sources and ensure that industries requiring high-performance magnets can access a reliable domestic supply.

The companies plan to work closely on logistics, quality control, and production planning to ensure timely delivery of rare earth oxides, enabling Noveon to meet growing customer demand while maintaining consistent performance standards.

This initiative highlights the importance of collaboration between chemical suppliers and magnet manufacturers in addressing the challenges of sustainable material supply, industrial electrification, and the global transition to low-carbon technologies.

By integrating expertise across chemistry, recycling, and manufacturing, Solvay and Noveon aim to support the domestic production of critical components while fostering innovation and resilience in the rare earth magnet industry.
