Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 14, Zachry Group has been awarded the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) scope for the Lake Charles Methanol II Project, a major initiative in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The project will create the world’s largest low-carbon “blue” methanol facility and is set to become the fifth-largest methanol plant globally. The facility is designed to capture around one million metric tons of CO₂ annually, marking a significant step in sustainable methanol production and supporting industrial decarbonization efforts.
The FEED phase, now in progress, will establish the technical and economic framework for the project and pave the way for a Final Investment Decision (FID), expected in the second quarter of 2026.
John Zachry, Chairman and CEO of Zachry Group, said: “We’re honored to partner with Lake Charles Methanol II on this transformative project. This award reinforces our leadership in executing technically advanced, low-carbon solutions at scale. Together, we’re setting the standard for sustainability in industrial development.”
Zachry Group’s involvement reflects its expertise in delivering complex, first-of-a-kind energy infrastructure. The company has a long history of innovation and a strong focus on safety and sustainability, positioning it to guide clients through the energy transition while meeting regulatory and environmental standards.
The Lake Charles Methanol II Project represents a milestone in low-carbon chemical production. By integrating carbon capture technologies, the facility aims to significantly reduce emissions compared to conventional methanol plants. This approach aligns with growing global emphasis on sustainable industrial operations and supports broader decarbonization initiatives in the chemical sector.
The FEED stage will include detailed engineering studies, cost estimation, and risk analysis to ensure the project is technically sound, economically viable, and environmentally responsible. Successful completion of this phase is critical to securing final project approvals and moving toward construction.
Zachry Group’s award underscores the company’s ongoing role in advancing large-scale, environmentally focused industrial projects. With its capabilities in delivering innovative engineering solutions, Zachry is positioned to help the Lake Charles Methanol II Project achieve its operational and sustainability goals.
Once operational, the facility is expected to set a benchmark for low-carbon methanol production globally, providing a model for future projects that combine efficiency, scale, and environmental responsibility. The project will also contribute to local economic growth by creating construction and operational jobs, strengthening Lake Charles’ position as a hub for advanced chemical manufacturing.
This development highlights the increasing role of advanced engineering and technology in enabling industrial decarbonization while meeting rising global demand for cleaner chemical products.
