M Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner of the Bangalore Development Authority, on Monday directed relevant departments to demarcate the required land parcel at St. John's Medical College Hospital and commence construction of the five piers for the Ejipura Road Bridge. This move aims to resolve the land-related obstacles hindering the project.
Following consultations with traffic police and hospital representatives, the hospital agreed to temporarily provide a small portion of land for installing the portal piers adjacent to the hospital boundary wall on the footpath. This land is located on the left side when traveling along the main Ejipura Road from the direction of Central Building. Rao instructed engineers and contractors to immediately demarcate the construction area and begin work, while also setting up barricades for safety and planning a material storage zone. After construction, the hospital boundary wall will be rebuilt to its original state.
Rao stated that the project aims to complete the road bridge by June. He mentioned that the major challenges regarding the main bridge construction and utility shifting have largely been resolved. Out of a total of 762 segmental girders, 170 have already been cast; at the current construction pace of 45 girders per month, the remaining work is expected to be completed by July at the latest, i.e., within the next two to three months.
"We have consulted all stakeholders, and given the land acquisition situation, there are currently no other technical alternatives," Rao added. "The design of the road bridge, including its junction with the main road, will be meticulously planned."
