Wedoany.com Report on Mar 2nd, Intercontinental Energy (ICE) announced that its Western Green Energy Hub (WGEH) project has secured green ammonia offtake interest from Japanese and Korean customers, sufficient to support the first phase entering operation in 2033.

The first phase of the project will achieve offtake of at least 1.4 million tonnes of green ammonia per year, with subsequent phases to be progressively advanced, planning to reach an annual production capacity of 28 million tonnes by 2050.

This progress closely follows ICE's success at the Australian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH), with ARENA's support accelerating project development to meet the demand for green iron in the Pilbara region.

Alexander Tancock, CEO of Intercontinental Energy, said, "The last three months have seen a significant shift."

"The progress at WGEH and AREH reflects the growing confidence in Australia's green hydrogen sector. These projects demonstrate rigorous execution by systematically de-risking core elements."

"The interest we are seeing at WGEH from Japanese and Korean customers validates Australia's long-term vision aligning with its strategic trade partners, marking a significant step for Western Australia in the green hydrogen industry."

Raymond McDonald, CEO of WGEH, said, "The Western Green Energy Hub will develop into a major green e-fuels project, providing a crucial opportunity for Western Australia in the clean fuels space."

"We are proud to be working closely with key partners, and there is a high degree of alignment between local and international stakeholders. This growing customer interest underscores the project's strategic value."

Located on the Mirning traditional lands in the Goldfields region of Western Australia, the WGEH's integrated renewable hydrogen and ammonia production will drive the development of sustainable supply chains in sectors such as heavy fuel, industry, shipping, chemicals, and power generation.
