en.Wedoany.com Reported - Van Oord has completed the transportation and installation of all monopile foundations and transition pieces for the Baltic Power offshore wind farm in Poland. With a designed capacity of 1.2 GW, the project is expected to provide clean electricity to over 1.5 million Polish households.
According to Van Oord, the company was responsible for installing 78 monopile foundations and 76 transition pieces for this project. The majority of the monopile foundations were installed by the company's heavy-lift installation vessel, Svanen, which was recently upgraded with a 25-meter crane extension.
The Baltic Power project is the first assignment for the upgraded Svanen, enabling it to support the installation of foundation structures for 15 MW wind turbines. Van Oord, in collaboration with its partner Mammoet, was responsible for the transportation and deployment of the foundations, utilizing the XXL monopile transport system and the MTC1600 crane specifically developed for this project.
All transition pieces were installed by SAL's DP2 heavy-lift vessel MV Lone, with Van Oord's team providing full supervision onboard. Maurits den Broeder, Managing Director of Offshore Energy at Van Oord, stated: "We are delighted to have successfully completed this project, contributing to Poland's energy transition. Close collaboration with our client and partners was crucial in achieving this milestone, helping to advance the project efficiently and jointly promoting offshore wind as a reliable energy source."
Maciej Stryjecki, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Baltic Power, noted: "As Poland's first offshore wind project under construction, it lays the foundation for the country's wind industry, which is both an honor and a challenge. We have installed foundations for a new generation of 15 MW turbines, the largest currently available on the European market, requiring corresponding upgrades to the installation equipment."
Baltic Power is Van Oord's first offshore wind project in Poland and is expected to officially commence operations in the second half of 2026.
