en.Wedoany.com Reported - Campus AI has appointed Eiffage as the general contractor for the development of the high-voltage substation and shared infrastructure at its Fouju Campus in France, with a contract value exceeding €120 million (approximately $139.6 million). This marks the project's transition from the design phase to the implementation phase, based on initial commitments announced at the "Choose France" summit in 2025.

The project will be delivered by a consortium led by Eiffage Énergie Systèmes, responsible for the design, engineering, supply, construction, and commissioning of a 400kV/33kV substation, targeting a final output power of 1.4GW. Other Eiffage subsidiaries have been assigned to handle the campus's buildings, engineering structures, roads, utilities, and landscaping. Eiffage Génie Civil and Eiffage Route will oversee civil engineering and external areas, respectively.

Campus AI's selection of Eiffage reflects a decision to contextualize the project within France's industrial sector. The company stated that synergies between Eiffage's various divisions will enable the integration of design and construction processes, potentially accelerating the overall timeline. Eiffage will use teams from the Île-de-France region and intends to prioritize subcontractors and small and medium-sized enterprises from the area for the work.

The planned metal-clad substation will use gas with low global warming potential for insulation. According to Campus AI, this is the first time this method has been adopted for equipment at this voltage level in France, a voluntary initiative where environmental factors are considered an advantage.

Ludovic Duplan, Chairman of Eiffage Énergie Systèmes, said: "We are proud to support Campus AI in achieving a capacity-building project that is crucial for national and even European digital sovereignty. Through this contract, Eiffage reaffirms its commitment to stakeholders in the data center and AI factory sectors."

Campus AI, a joint venture established by MGX, Mistral AI, Bpifrance, and Nvidia, develops large-scale AI infrastructure in France. The Fouju Campus will be equipped with up to 12 data center buildings housing supercomputers, two substations, and related technical and support facilities. The project aims to support the development of artificial intelligence and digital innovation, with the initial phase expected to begin operations in 2028. The campus covers a total area of approximately 70 hectares and is planned for phased expansion to accommodate industry needs.

Thibaud Desfossés, General Manager of Campus AI, said: "By appointing Eiffage, Campus AI is moving from the design phase to the implementation phase. We are building an infrastructure in France that will enable the deployment of macro-scale artificial intelligence in Europe." French transmission system operator RTE will connect the campus via a new 400kV substation, with connection capacity gradually increasing from an initial 700MW to a total of 1,400MW.
