en.Wedoany.com Reported - India's Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, stated at the "Building Resilience through Climate Change" dialogue in New Delhi that India has become a global leader in climate action, demonstrating strong performance in achieving its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) with rapid expansion of renewable energy capacity. He also revealed that India is engaging with over a dozen countries and regions on trade and economic partnership agreements.

Goyal noted that India is among the top performers in the G20 in meeting its NDCs, consistently ranking in the top 1 to 3 positions, and has achieved its renewable energy targets eight years ahead of schedule, with current installed capacity reaching 260 GW. He recalled that when the government took office in 2014, the national solar energy installation plan aimed to achieve 20 GW within 9 to 10 years, but under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the target was raised to 100 GW and completed on time. India's current goal is to achieve 500 GW of clean energy installed capacity by 2030. He also mentioned that the government has conducted extensive planning efforts, including around 29 studies on renewable energy scenarios, to guide infrastructure and capacity decisions.

Regarding grid development, Goyal emphasized structural reforms under the vision of "One Nation, One Grid." He stated that India has formed a unified national grid by integrating previously isolated regional grids, resolving the issue where peak-hour electricity prices in the south reached as high as 12 rupees per unit while power was idle in other regions. After grid integration, electricity costs dropped to approximately 2.5 to 3 rupees per unit, and generation capacity utilization efficiency was optimized. He also noted that India has undertaken large-scale expansion of transmission infrastructure and restarted stalled power projects.

On trade partnerships, Goyal said India is in active dialogue with 12 countries and regions, including Peru, Chile, Canada, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and its neighboring regions, Brazil and its neighboring regions, Russia and the Eurasian region, and Israel. He believes the world has recognized India's growth story, and opening global market doors is crucial for Indian enterprises.

Goyal also highlighted India's transformation in energy-efficient lighting. He stated that by eliminating subsidies and adopting a data-driven approach, India transitioned from traditional lighting systems to nationwide LED lighting within three years, making it the fastest such transition globally, achieving significant energy and carbon savings.

During his speech, Goyal also launched the Climate Resilience Analysis and Visualization Intelligent System (CRAVIS), developed by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW). This system is an artificial intelligence-driven climate-smart platform that combines over 40 years of historical data with projections up to 2070, enabling district-level analysis of 279 indicators. The platform integrates datasets from institutions such as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM Pune), supporting decision-making through maps, dashboards, and natural language queries.
