en.Wedoany.com Reported - French energy group ENGIE and European Energy have agreed to jointly develop a renewable hydrogen project in Denmark.

ENGIE and European Energy collaborate on hydrogen project

Located in Aabenraa Municipality, the project will involve the construction of electrolysis facilities with a capacity of up to 150MW, targeting operation around 2030. The site is near Kassø, an area that already hosts an industrial-scale e-methanol plant co-owned by European Energy and Mitsui & Co.

The facility is designed to connect to the future Danish-German Hydrogen Backbone and support hydrogen demand in the German market. Under the agreement, ENGIE has secured marketing rights for over 20,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually.

The project has been selected for the AaaS 25 hydrogen auction program linked to the German and European Hydrogen Bank.

Henri Domenach, General Manager of ENGIE Energy Management, stated that the two companies have strong complementarity in terms of geography and the electricity and hydrogen value chains. The Kassø project, developed by European Energy as a pioneer partner in large-scale renewable hydrogen production, will enable ENGIE to strengthen its services to German customers from 2030 onwards.

Rene Alcaraz Frederiksen, Executive Vice President and Head of Power-to-X at European Energy, noted that ENGIE has extensive experience in connecting renewable energy production with demand, and the collaboration will benefit both parties.
