Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 19, Nordex Group has announced its entry into Ecuador with a new order for wind turbines. The agreement includes the supply of 19 N149/5.X turbines from its Delta4000 series, providing a total capacity of 112MW. The turbines will be installed on 105-meter-high steel tube towers.
The client and project name have not been disclosed.
Construction of the project is scheduled to start in October 2026, and commissioning is planned for March 2027. Although the client and project name have not been disclosed, Nordex confirmed that the wind farm will contribute to strengthening Ecuador’s renewable energy supply. It is expected to stabilize electricity availability during the Amazon region’s dry season, when hydropower output decreases, helping to reduce outages and improve overall reliability.
Currently, Ecuador has three operational wind farms with a combined capacity of 69MW. The addition of this new facility will increase the total to 181MW, more than doubling existing capacity and reinforcing the country’s renewable energy foundation.
Nordex continues to expand its international presence with several new contracts. In March, the company secured an order for 16 N163/5.X turbines for a project in Nova Scotia, Canada. Earlier in 2025, Umweltgerechte Kraftanlagen (UK) placed an order for 80 turbines from the Delta4000 series, further demonstrating demand for Nordex technology.
To date, the company has installed around 57GW of wind capacity across more than 40 countries. In 2024, Nordex reported sales of approximately €7.3 billion ($8.63 billion). It employs over 10,400 people worldwide and operates production facilities in Germany, Spain, Brazil, India, and the United States.
Nordex focuses its portfolio on onshore turbines in the 4MW to 7MW plus range. These are designed for regions where space is limited and grid infrastructure faces restrictions, enabling efficient energy generation under varying conditions. This product strategy allows the company to serve a wide range of markets, from mature to emerging economies.
The Ecuador order reflects Nordex’s approach of entering new markets with scalable renewable energy solutions. By delivering advanced technology from the Delta4000 series, the company aims to enhance performance while supporting local energy security. The project also demonstrates the role of international wind power developers in supporting Latin America’s energy transition.
Overall, Nordex’s entry into Ecuador marks a notable step in the country’s renewable energy development. With construction and commissioning already scheduled, the wind farm is set to expand national generating capacity, improve supply stability, and contribute to long-term sustainability goals. At the same time, the deal highlights Nordex’s continued global growth, driven by a strong order pipeline, advanced product offerings, and an established presence across diverse regions.
