en.Wedoany.com Reported - Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd. has commenced downhole production testing at the Kavango West 1X (KW1X) discovery well in Block PEL 73, an onshore oil exploration license in northeastern Namibia.

The testing program plans to isolate and test six preferred target intervals in the Huttenburg and Elandshoek formations. The Huttenburg formation's highly fractured carbonate reservoir has a total interval length of 400 meters (1,312 feet) with a net hydrocarbon-bearing interval of 75 meters (246 feet). The Elandshoek formation's highly fractured carbonate reservoir has a hydrocarbon-saturated interval length of 560 meters (1,837 feet), featuring 81 meters (265 feet) of hydrocarbon fluorescence and oil shows, with oil sheens and bubbles observed on the mud pit surface during drilling.

Cement bond logs confirm that production testing can proceed without additional cementing operations. Downhole perforation work is underway, with each interval test lasting up to 10 days. During this phase, any gas or liquids flowing to the surface will be flared. Upon successful production testing, the well will be temporarily suspended for future use as a production well.

Despite a slight delay in the permit application to transport downhole testing equipment from North America to the Kavango West 1X drilling site, ReconAfrica plans to disclose production test results to all stakeholders by the end of July.

Following the completion of production testing at KW1X, ReconAfrica plans to conduct further appraisal drilling at the Kavango discovery. Preparations for the appraisal well are underway, including specific permit applications and site preparation for the Kavango West 2A (KW2A) well. This well is scheduled to spud before the end of the third quarter of this year, subject to final permitting and regulatory approvals.

ReconAfrica is the operator of PEL 73 (holding a 70% interest), with partners including BW Energy (20%) and the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR, 10%). ReconAfrica is also the operator of the Ngulu block.
