On February 20, the Government of Canada, the Government of Nova Scotia, and the Town of Antigonish jointly announced a major investment plan aimed at supporting the rapid construction of new housing in the area by upgrading municipal infrastructure. According to the agreement, the federal government will contribute over $164.68 million through the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund (CHIF), the Province of Nova Scotia will provide $1,372,196 in matching funds, and the Town of Antigonish will invest $1,118,004.

A statement from the Department of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities indicates that the funds will be prioritized for municipal infrastructure renewal in the West Antigonish and James Street areas, including the replacement and repair of main water lines, stormwater pipes, and sewer pipes. This initiative is expected to support the construction of up to 323 new housing units, including 48 affordable housing units, directly alleviating local housing supply pressures.

Federal MP Jaime Battiste noted: "By working with the provincial and municipal governments, we are using the Antigonish project as an example to pave the way for future housing opportunities. Combined with the recently launched 'Building Canada's Homes' plan, the federal government will continue to drive innovation in the housing construction industry and collaborate with multiple stakeholders to accelerate the delivery of more affordable housing."

Antigonish Mayor Sean Cameron expressed gratitude for the collaboration across all levels of government: "The support provided by the federal and provincial governments through CHIF is crucial for the Town of Antigonish to achieve its municipal infrastructure upgrades. This investment not only improves the municipal services required for new housing but also enhances community inclusivity through the construction of affordable housing. The concerted efforts of the three levels of government lay a solid foundation for building a livable town and expanding housing accessibility."
