Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 20, TotalEnergies has formally submitted planning applications to Germany’s Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) for two large offshore wind projects. The applications cover the 2 GW NordseeEnergies 1 development (site N-12.1) in the North Sea and the 1 GW OstseeEnergies project (site O-2.2) in the Baltic Sea.
The submissions were made on schedule, marking the first key regulatory step toward project realization.
Antoine Becker, Managing Director Offshore Wind at TotalEnergies in Germany, stated: “This marks the first major milestone on the path to successfully implementing our projects and strengthening sustainable energy supply in Germany.”
He continued: “Everyone is working diligently on implementing the projects, as Germany is the most important European market for the development of our integrated electricity business.”
Construction of both wind farms is scheduled to start in 2029, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2031. The revised timeline reflects a one-year adjustment from the earlier target of 2030.
Following submission of complete documentation, the BSH has up to 18 months to review the applications and issue planning approval decisions. The two projects together represent 3 GW of new offshore wind capacity that will contribute to Germany’s renewable energy expansion and long-term electricity supply goals.
TotalEnergies secured the sites through previous German offshore wind auctions and is advancing detailed engineering and environmental studies required for the permitting process. Once operational, the wind farms will supply clean electricity to the German grid, supporting the country’s energy transition objectives.
