en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 13, 2026, US clean energy developer Avantus has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with California community choice aggregator Clean Power Alliance for the Rexford 2 project located in Tulare County. The agreement covers a 200 MW solar power facility and a 200 MW/800 MWh battery energy storage system, which Avantus expects to power approximately 84,000 households in Southern California once operational.

Avantus signs 20-year PPA for Rexford 2

Fluence will supply its Smartstack battery technology. The project is scheduled to begin construction in 2027, with a target of commercial operation by the end of 2028 and power delivery starting in May 2029. Avantus will own and operate the project as an independent power producer, while advancing a development pipeline of approximately 13 GW of solar and 44 GWh of energy storage across California, Nevada, and Arizona, with a goal of achieving 5 GW of operational capacity by 2030.

The 20-year PPA creates long-term revenue visibility for the Rexford 2 project, facilitates financing, and transfers power purchase credit risk from the developer to the utility-grade buyer, Clean Power Alliance. The agreement terms link electricity payments to long-term performance expectations of solar generation and battery system operations, making the storage component a revenue-related asset.

The agreement is based on a solar-plus-storage configuration, supporting revenue from energy output and grid support services enabled through storage dispatch. For Tulare County, the long-term agreement supports ongoing project construction and operations; for Clean Power Alliance, the project incorporates substantial clean capacity into its portfolio, helping meet demand and reduce emissions.

By securing a long-term sales channel for Rexford 2, Avantus demonstrates repeatable contracting and development execution. The 20-year agreement structure also supports battery system warranties, performance guarantees, and lifecycle planning. For ratepayers served through Clean Power Alliance, the agreement provides long-term procurement certainty for a portion of their clean energy needs.
